MMA Federal ID Q&A

Q: Where do I send the application?
A: Please send the application to:

Oregon State Athletic Commission
Attn: Brad Darcy
3400 State St.; Suite G-750
Salem, OR 97301

Q: Is there a fee?
A: No.

Q: Do I have to have a card to fight?
A: As of January 1st, 2009, you must either present an MMA Federal ID card or submit a completed application for one to be allowed to compete in an MMA match in Oregon.

Q: Can I bring my application to the event?
A: I strongly encourage fighters to submit their application to the Commission prior to the event. If you submit your application to me in advance, I will make every effort to ensure that you have your card prior to the event. I will accept the application at the event. If the application is complete, you will be allowed to fight. Submitting the application in time will speed things at the weigh ins and ease the promoter's mind. If time is short before an event bring the application to the weigh in.

Q:Where can I get the form?
A:The MMA Federal ID Card application form can be downloaded from the Commission website HERE. The forms can also be requested to be sent by mail by calling the Commission Executive Director at 503-378-8739.

Q: Can I email my picture to the Commission?
A: Yes. You can either mail a passport sized photo with your application, or submit via email a photo directly to the Commission at: brad.darcy@state.or.us . Please clearly identify who the picture is. The picture must be in a format applicable to our software; preferably a jpeg. Please indicate that the photo is submitted for a Federal ID card in the subject line.

Q: Why?
A: The Association of Boxing Commissions at its July 2008 Annual Conference decided to implement this system. It's a good idea and it's a national requirement. The purpose is to establish a national database that will officially track the records of MMA Fighters. Boxing has had a similar system for a long time. The records will be based on results submitted by Athletic Commissions. As a Commission, it's difficult to know if two fighters are evenly matched without a verifiable record. This will be a tool in establishing parity between fighters. The database will also indicate if a fighter is currently serving a suspension by our Commission or another. Promoters will be able to submit proposed fight cards to the database and immediately know if a fighter is serving a suspension, or is scheduled to fight on another show.
