Alden Looks to extend undefeated Record in Third Title Defense on August 28th
JUST ADDED TO THE FIGHT CARD: Damion Martindale will fight for the Heavyweight Championship
Portland, OR - On Saturday, August 28th the Full Contact Fighting Federation brings you two events on one night: The 53rd installment of Rumble @ The Roseland (Portland's oldest and most respected live cage fights) and UFC 118 in the Roseland Bar and Grill, brought to you by Chinook Winds Casino Resort. The Rumble 53 event features three Championship Fights in the 145-pound, 170-pound and Heavyweight divisions, as well as an action-packed undercard of Portland's rising MMA talent.
At Rumble @ The Roseland 53 you will witness the current FCFF Featherweight Champion, John Alden defending his Title against Justin Mark. "Mark has been on fire. He has had some first round tapouts and chokes, as well as, taking on a guy about 25 lbs. heavier than him and winning," said FCFF co-owner and Matchmaker Kevin Keeney. On June 26th Justin Mark earned the 145-pound Superfight Belt at Caged on the Coast 2 by defeating Jesse Peacock (via tapout due to triangle choke in only 57 seconds of round number one); that win set him up as the number one contender to face John Alden. "Justin Mark has been calling out Champion John Alden for months now, he will get his chance on August 28th," said Keeney. Mark also had an impressive first round choke-out victory over Aaron Wolf at Rumble 50 this year.
John "The Pretty Boy" Alden, the current undisputed and undefeated (6-0) FCFF Featherweight Champion is remarkably wrapping up his first year of mma competition. Alden's début was in September of 2009 at the Rumble @ The Roseland 46 event; there he defeated Aaron Katter in only 56 seconds of round number one, via choke. Since then he has competed in six straight events, and earned six straight wins. "Some fighters dream of winning six fights in their amateur career. John did it in a little over six months. This is a big deal - very few fighters have accomplished what he has," said Keeney. On Saturday, August 28th he will come off a three-month competition hiatus to make his third Title defense against Justin Mark. This hiatus was to "let my body heal from the everyday bumps and bruises of training. I fought 6 straight shows for the FCFF and it starts to take a toll on your body having to cut weight every month," says Alden. He focused on the art and technique of mma, when before he was constantly preparing for a fight. He also had a little fun; he and his father went to Vegas and played in the World Series of Poker event.
John "The Pretty Boy" Alden's Fight History in the FCFF
Alden first earned the Featherweight belt at Rumble @ The Roseland 49 on January 16th 2010 by defeating Chris Beacock via chokeout in 2:25 of round number two. Alden never looked back; he then earned the 150-pound Superfight Title by defeating Tyler Baley via tapout in only 1:03 of round number one at Rumble @ The Roseland 50 on March 6th. "It seems who ever we put in front of Alden he wins. We've put the best against him and he comes out on top," said Keeney, "He could be another Portland MMA fighter that goes above and beyond and enters the professional arena of the sport very soon." Most recently, at Caged on the Coast 1 on May 1st in Lincoln City, he took home his second Featherweight Championship belt by defending his title against Blaine Nuttall of Team Quest. He beat the Nuttall in only 1:24 of round number one via choke and then officially begun his three-month break of mma competition. He is back on August 28th.
HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE FIGHT JUST ADDED TO FIGHT CARD:
The third Championship bout, just added to the Rumble @ The Roseland 53 fight card pits Heavyweights Damion Martindale of Alive MMA against Eli Pauls of North West Warriors Fight Team. Martindale originally comes from the Oregon Brazilian Jiu-jitsu school in Astoria, but as since made the Transition to Portland. Martindale last competed in December of 2009 for the FCFF. There he fought for the Heavyweight Superfight Title fight against Paul Hasslen and lost at Rumble 48. Since, he has earned his way back up the ranks to become the number one heavyweight contender. "Damion was a State Champion wrestler in High School and faced the UFC's BROCK LESNER and won in the quarterfinals of his 1997 collegiate wrestling championship," said Keeney, "he has talent."
Damion Martindale's Fight History
Martindale, has many credits to his name in the arena of combat sports. He was the State Champion wrestler at Marshall High School in Portland and went onto wrestling at Clackamas Community College. In collegiate wrestling competition he met with Brock Lesnar (current famous professional mma athlete with the UFC) in quarterfinal competition at the National Championships. "Lesnar made a mistake and I was able to put him on his back and hold on for the win," said humbly by Martindale. While Martindale is a down-to-earth guy, he is dead serious about competition and his future in MMA. At first, his motivator for starting mixed martial arts was to get back into shape, but has quickly turned into something more. "Damion can go as far as he wants too in MMA. He has competed at high stress levels since he was a freshman in High School. He knows what he is doing and what he is fighting for," says FCFF Matchmaker and Co-owner Keeney.
