BLOOD TESTING REQUIRED

On Friday, August 3, 2007, The Oregon State Athletic Commission voted that all athletes, Amateur or Professional, competing in Mixed Martial Arts in the State of Oregon must be tested for HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C. An athlete must have his blood tested within 1 year of the competition date.

Please get your testing done early enought to allow 5 business days to get your results back. Please bring a copy of your test results with you to weigh-ins on August 18. If you have any questions, please call Chael Sonnen (503-913-4444) or Kevin Keeney (503-515-4564).

You can get blood testing results by donating with the American Red Cross. I do not know the time it will take to get the testing results, so this may not be the best option if you need results ASAP.

Contact your local American Red Cross to schedule an appointment for blood donation. The following tests are performed on each donor:

  • ABO/Rh determination
  • Antibody detection
  • Automated test for Syphilis
  • Antibody to Human Immunodeficiency Virus (anti HIV 1/2)
  • Antibody to Hepatitis B Core Antigen (anti-HBc)
  • Antibody to Hepatitis C Virus (anti-HCV)
  • Antibody to Human T-Cell Lymphotropic Virus (anti HTLV I/II)
  • Nucleic Acid Test for HIV 1/2/HCV and West Nile Virus (WNV)

When you donate blood, you will be provided a “Post-Donation and Call-Back Instructions” sheet. Included in the sheet is a phone number to call, which will likely be to the Donor Care and Response Center in Boise, ID at 1-800-737-0802.

Call this phone number and explain you need an Authorization for Release of Information form to get blood testing results. They can either mail it or fax it to you. When you get the form, fill it out and have the results mailed or faxed to you.

Thank you,
Kevin Keeney
